James River Catfishing
Livewell Catfishing on the Lower James River in Virginia. How to construct a Livewell
for Large Catfish
Sam's
and also Walmart now have the larger 160 quart Igloo coolers which I feel would
not be large enough for some of the monster cats on the James River. In years
past many tournament anglers used a recirculating pump and a spray bar to aerate
the water in a converted cooler if they had a smaller livewell onboard.
The
Virginia state record blue catfish of 102 pounds, 4 ounces—caught on the James
5/20/09 and measured 52-3/4 inches in length with a girth of 41-1/2
inches. This monster cat would not fit in a 160 quart cooler nor would the previous record, set by Archie Gold back in July of 2006 that
pushed the scales to
95 pounds, 11 ounces.
Many tournament catfishermen now take aeration of the
water to a new level infusing air. A system that is fast becoming a tournament
favorite for many is Akwa-Lung. You can convert a tank, cooler or
even an aluminum truck toolbox. ...The toolbox is fast becoming a favorite
because it has a sealed top with a lock, so if you are on a trip you can use it
as a storage compartment at the hotel. Also here are some good links to check
